How to Say “Protest” in Brazilian Portuguese

March 19, 2015 By Josh Plotkin Leave a Comment

These are certainly interesting times for Brazil.

Over the last few weeks there have been a series of protests in wake of the billion dollar Petrobras scandal. On March 15 a reported 2 million Brazilians came out to the streets to voice their discontent for the way the country is being managed.

Many of the protesters are demanding the impeachment of president Dilma Rousseff. Many have called for a return of the military dictatorship to “clean things up.” Some have no idea what they want and are just there because all of their friends are. Some are there because they were paid R$30 a day to protest.

Since this site is mostly about education and the Portuguese language, I’d suggest going elsewhere for news about the protests.

What I wanted to share with you today is a video I made to help you remember the word for protest in Portuguese.

I plan on making a regular series out of this, where I teach a single word of Portuguese using a funny story.

If you have suggestions for which word I should teach next please leave them in the comments below.
