How to say “I dont understand” in Portuguese

October 7, 2013 By Josh Plotkin 1 Comment

Confused by what everyone around you is saying?

Let them know you don’t understand so they can help you understand better.

In this video you’ll learn several ways to say that you don’t understand.

Eu não entendo means I don’t understand. Use this when you don’t speak much Portuguese and want people do know that you don’t understand anything.

You can also say “Eu não entendo português” to emphasize the point that you don’t understand anything.

Não entendi means that you didn’t understand that sentence and that they should repeat.

Não entendi, pode falar mais devagar por favor means that they spoke really fast and you couldn’t make out the individual words that they used to make up that blob of sound they just hit you with.

Não entendi nada means that you didn’t understand anything.

Oi is like saying “What?” and should be used when you weren’t paying attention and they should say it all over again.

Como que é is like saying “Come again?” and is used in a similar manner as oi.
