Quando and que horas both are used to ask when?

Quando is used to ask about dates, days of the week, months, years, etc.

Quando é seu aniversario? Quando é a festa?

When (what date) is your birthday? When (what date) is the party?

Que horas is used to ask about a specific time.

A que horas vai ser a festa?

What time is the party?

Often times gringos will say quando when they mean to say que horas and they will get a confused response from someone. Imagine this conversation.

The party is starting soon!

What day is the party?

Doesn’t make sense right? Its the same thing when you use quando to ask about a specific time.
