Por que? Simply means why?

Por quê also means why, but you only use it when it comes at the end of a sentence. Or if it stands alone as a sentence you also use it.

Porque simply means because.

Porquê is more like a synonym of razão or motivo. You would use porquê when talking about the reason why something is the way it is. Example:

Eu não sei o porquê ele não está aqui.

In this example the o porquê could be replaced with razão or motivo and it wouldn’t change the meaning. That’s when you know that you use the ê with the hat.

Did that clear it up for you?
