October 2, 2013 By Josh Plotkin 6 Comments

Unsure about how to grab someone’s attention in conversation?

Watch this video to learn 6 different ways you can get someone’s attention in Brazil

O! is the most common way to get someones attention. It means look! Use this forcefully to grab someones attention and interrupt them from what they were previously doing.

Aqui! is commonly used in Minas Gerais, meaning look here!

Bom dia, boa tarde and boa noite can be used as a greeting when the person should be expecting you to say something.

Opa! is used in a similar way.

Desculpa and com licença mean excuse me or pardon me, and are used to grab someone’s attention suddenly, like if you are passing them by on the street.
